Greetings, adventurers, dreamers, and fellow lovers of epic tales! I’m Alex Zenk, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my corner of the internet, where the mists of Asheros swirl and stories of valor, betrayal, and magic come to life. As the author of The Chronicles of Ordi, starting with my debut novel The Brotherhood of Ordi, I’m here to share the heart and soul of my fantasy world, my writing journey, and a few glimpses into the craft behind it all. So grab a mug of ale (or coffee if you’re like me) and let’s embark on this adventure together.
Why Fantasy, Why Asheros?
Growing up in the Midwest, I found escape in the rolling hills of Tolkien’s Middle-earth and the epic battles of World of Warcraft. Those stories sparked a fire in me, a longing to create a world as vast and vibrant where heroes wrestle with their flaws and the line between good and evil blurs in the shadows. That’s how Asheros was born: a realm of towering dwarven strongholds, whispering forests, and ancient relics pulsing with forgotten magic. In The Chronicles of Ordi, I weave tales of sacrifice, redemption, and the courage to face impossible odds, inspired by my love for classic fantasy and my reflections on human nature as a pastor.
The Brotherhood of Ordi, the first book in the series, plunges you into a world where unlikely heroes rise against a looming darkness. It’s a story of grit, hope, and the bonds that hold us together, perfect for fans of Tolkien’s grandeur or Erikson’s character-driven epics. I hope Asheros feels like home.
What’s This Blog All About?
This blog is my way of inviting you behind the scenes. Expect posts about the lore of Asheros like the dwarven pride of ancient strongholds or the mysterious creatures that stalk its wilds. I’ll share writing updates (spoiler: Book 2 is in progress and the fall of Talamar is an intense moment!), tips for aspiring authors, and reflections on the fantasy genre. You’ll also get sneak peeks at new character maps and maybe even a creature or two (who’s afraid of a Mistwraith?). Plus I want to hear from you your favorite tropes dream fantasy worlds or thoughts on The Brotherhood of Ordi.
A Glimpse into My World
When I’m not writing or tending to my pastoral duties, I’m exploring Iowa’s trails with my family, imagining new landscapes for Asheros in every windswept field or quiet stream. Those moments fuel my stories, grounding the fantastical in something real.
